Netanyahu says Israel’s ”intensive” offensive in Gaza is set to wind down. Noah Lyles secures a spot on the U.S. Olympic team for the Paris Games. And Taylor Swift brought out Travis Kelce onstage during her London concert.

The “intensive” phase of Israel’s offensive in Gaza will soon end, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said yesterday— but he signaled that he would not agree to a cease-fire deal that would end the war, and that this new phase would allow a shift in focus to the simmering conflict on the country’s northern border with Lebanon.
Netanyahu’s comments appeared to back further away from the United States’ push for a truce deal with Hamas, setting the stage for his latest clash with the Biden administration and with the families of hostages still held in Gaza. They also fueled new international concern about an escalation with the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah that could ignite a broader regional conflict.
Speaking with an Israeli TV channel, Netanyahu said that the current phase of fighting in Gaza was set to wind down. “We will continue afterward to mow the lawn, we will not give up on that,” he said, speaking in Hebrew. After this, “we will have the option to move part of the force to the north. We will do that,” he said.
The Israeli leader also said he was “ready to make a partial deal” that would secure the release of “some of the hostages,” but reiterated that Israel would continue its offensive in Gaza even if there was a cease-fire “to achieve the goal of eliminating” Hamas. Read more.
Noah Lyles won the men’s 100-meter final with a time of 9.83, earning him a spot on his second U.S. Olympic team.
Lyles ran his semifinal 100-meter heat yesterday in 9.80 seconds, the fastest time in the round at Hayward Field. The sprinting star advanced to the semifinal with a 9.92 run Saturday night — the best time in the 35-man field. Though Lyles’ final time fell short of his goal of a 9.7 or under, it equaled his personal best. He will also run in the 200 later this week.
Kenny Bednarek (9.87) and Fred Kerley (9.88) finished second and third, respectively, at the U.S. track and field trials and will also go to Paris.
Officials found a disheveled Lukas McClish after witnesses heard calls for help in a wooded area, nine days after he got lost while hiking in California’s Santa Cruz mountains.
He was shirtless, with only a flashlight and a pair of scissors, NBC affiliate KSBW of Salinas reported. He was last seen on the morning of June 11 in Boulder Creek, near Big Basin Redwoods State Park. McClish didn’t tell anyone he was going on a hike.
He slept on a bed of wet leaves, drank water from a creek out of his boot and ate wild berries as he tried calling for help. “Just ‘Help, help, I’m over here. Is anybody out there? I want a burrito and a taco bowl,’” McClish told KSBW that he would yell out. “That’s what I thought about every day after the first five days, when I started to kind of realize that I might be in over my head.” He said a mountain lion ended up following him for a few days while he was lost.
Authorities used drones to determine McClish’s exact location after the cries for help were reported, and a rescue dog helped bring him to safety.
Travis Kelce came out at London’s Wembley Stadium in his first onstage appearance for Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour.” The Kansas City Chiefs tight end performed alongside Swift during the intro for “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” in the newly added “Tortured Poets Department” era of the show.
As Swift transitions into the last song of the era, she acts out a short skit with two of her dancers after she appears to “drop dead” during the penultimate song in the set, “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.”
One of the dancers carries her to a heart-shaped couch, and they then appear to revive a lifeless Swift, changing her costume from a white gown to a two-piece sequin set and applying her makeup to get her ready for the rest of the show so she can, well, do it with a broken heart. Videos posted on social media showed Kelce first carrying Swift to the couch, then brushing her face with a makeup brush once she was up again. He showed off some dance moves, too, all with a big, goofy smile plastered to his face.
The next wave of blockbuster obesity drugs is on the way. At the upcoming American Diabetes Association conference in Florida, drugmakers are expected to present data on 27 new drugs, which contain the key GLP-1 hormone used in Ozempic and Wegovy.
Some of the experimental drugs may go beyond diabetes and weight loss, improving liver and heart function while reducing side effects such as muscle loss common to the existing medications. “We’ve heard about Ozempic and Mounjaro and so on, but now we’re seeing lots and lots of different drug candidates in the pipeline, from very early-stage preclinical all the way through late-stage clinical,” said Dr. Marlon Pragnell, ADA’s vice president of research and science. “It’s very exciting to see so much right now.”
Approval by the Food and Drug Administration is likely years away for most. Some of the drugs showcased could be available for prescription in the U.S. within the next few years. Read more about the drugs in development here.
