Gadar 2 box office collection Day 42: Sunny Deol film gets overtaken by Jawan; Vicky Kaushal’s new release to further affect its run – The Indian Express

Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 is nearing the end of its phenomenal theatrical run after 42 days of release. The long-awaited sequel brought in Rs 134.88 cr in its first weekend, and went on to become the second-biggest Hindi movie of all time in India. However, Gadar 2’s progress slowed down after Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan debuted on September 7. On its 42nd day of release, the film added Rs 37 lakh to its total. Directed by Anil Sharma, Gadar 2’s domestic nett collections stand at Rs 521.53 crore, reported industry tracker Sacnilk.
The film has also slipped to the third position on the all-time domestic chart, as Jawan has zoomed past it on Thursday. Jawan’s box office collection was recorded at Rs 526.73 crore. Pathaan is maintaining its top position with Rs 543.05 crore, but will soon be overtaken by Jawan. With the release of Vicky Kaushal’s The Great Indian Family on Friday, Gadar 2 will be further impacted, making it almost impossible for it to generate the Rs 17 crore more that it needs to challenge Pathaan’s record.
Gadar 2 will be counted among the top box office performers of 2023 as it continued to rule the ticket counters for almost a month. It was released when Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was already ruling the box office, and with it came Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2. The film garnered praise from all quarters, although some, like Naseeruddin Shah, said that it was propagating a problematic trend. Sunny Deol’s friends and colleagues from the film industry congratulated him on the success of his film, which is being seen as his grand comeback.
Anil Sharma said that box office wasn’t on his mind while making the film. He said in an interview with India.com, “I don’t believe in numbers, Pathaan has done exceptionally well, even KGF (Chapter 2) did extremely well, and now, Gadar 2 is performing as well. Now, let’s see how far it goes, how far the public takes it. It is the public’s film. People are watching it and loving it, that’s enough for us.”
