The UK’s first ever womb transplant has been successful.
A 40-year-old woman, who already had two children, donated her womb to her 34-year-old sister, who’d stored embryos with the aim of undergoing IVF later this year.
The operation took nine hours and 20 minutes and lead surgeon Professor Richard Smith from Imperial College London said the experience had been “quite remarkable”, and the procedure had been a “massive success”.
