As the area off Chase Street/Newton Bridge Road continues to fill in, Rivet House, a boutique hotel, is opening in the Southern Mill complex on Oneta Street. Developed by couple James Whitley of Landmark Properties and interior designer Jessica Whitley, it’s run by the Indigo Road Hospitality Group, which manages a portfolio of small, fancy hotels across Georgia and the Carolinas. Rivet House has a spa and an Italian restaurant, Osteria Olio, which opens this Friday.
Indigo Road’s restaurants have been recognized nationally by the James Beard Foundation, with restaurateur Steve Palmer serving as “Chief Visionary Officer” and chef Mark Bolchoz as culinary director. The menu isn’t up on the website yet, but looks to focus on pizza, housemade pastas and good wine, with local produce driving its offerings. The restaurant also has a couple of rooms to book for private events and a patio. Dinner starts daily at 5 p.m.
In less chichi news, Athens’ second Whataburger, on Lexington Road by the Eastside Lowe’s, is officially open.
Locals Tarin and Luke Tripp are planning to open a branch of Michigan’s Biggby Coffee in Athens next year and are looking for a location, preferably with drive-thru capacity. In addition to a wide range of coffee and tea drinks, including tea lattes, Biggby has some food. The menu lists things like bagels, “bragels” (“brunch bagels?” with meats and cheeses, vegan in some locations), muffins, donut holes and macarons.
The Watkinsville location of Baddies Burgers is open, with a drive-thru, at 1011 Park Drive.
Treathouse, at Treehouse, has new summer hours: 1–6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 1–8 p.m. Friday, 12–8 p.m. Saturday and 12–5 p.m. Sunday, so go check out its delightful frozen treats.
