On Sunday evening, filmmaker Karan Johar expressed disappointment at a show on TV where an artist mimicked him in ‘poor taste’. The filmmaker found it disrespectful towards him. He, however, did not name the show or the channel in his post. However, netizens were quick to connect the dots and figured it was a promo of an upcoming episode on Sony TV’s Madness Machaenge. Now, comedian Kettan Singh who mimicked Karan has reacted to the post by the filmmaker.  Talking to Times Now, Kettan said that his intent was never to hurt Karan Johar. “I would like to apologise to Karan (Johar) sir. First of all, whatever impersonation I do because I watch a lot of Karan Johar on the coffee show, I am a fan of his work. I have seen his latest film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani 5 to 6 times. I am a huge fan of his work and his show. If my actions hurt him, I would like to apologise to him. My intention was not to hurt him. I just wanted to entertain audience but if I did something extra, I would like to say sorry to him.” “I would like to see the reactions of people and Karan sir after watching the episode. I don’t want to offend, sir. Many artists don’t mimic Karan sir. I used to do it a couple of years ago on The Kapil Sharma Show. I did it for the first time on Madness Machayenge. Apart from my apology, I am not thinking of anything else,” he said.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Sony Entertainment Television (@sonytvofficial) In his Instagram post, Karan Johar wrote, “I was sitting and watching television with my mom… and saw a promo of a reality comedy show on a supposedly respectable channel… a comic was mimicking me in exceptionally poor taste… I expect this from trolls and faceless and nameless people but when your own industry can disrespect someone who has been in the business for over 25 years it speaks volumes about the times we live in… this doesn’t even anger me it just makes me sad!” Ekta Kapoor also came in Karan’s support. Sharing his story, she wrote, “Happened so many times! Ugly humour is sometimes on shows and even at award functions. And then they expect you to attend. Karan, please ask them to imitate one movie or classic of yours.”
Actor Bobby Deol, who won praise from all quarters for his performance in the blockbuster film ‘Animal’, has said that the director of his debut film, Shekhar Kapur, opted out of the film because of the legacy of his father Dharmendra. Bobby appeared with his brother Sunny on the latest episode of the streaming comedy show ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’, and opened up on his debut film ‘Barsaat’. When host Kapil Sharma asked if Bobby or the director was scared to launch him, given the massive popularity of his father Dharmendra and elder brother Sunny Deol, Bobby replied: “Maybe that’s why Shekhar ran away. Shekhar Kapur. He was scared. But then Raj directed the film. But I never thought I was under pressure.” The actor had earlier shared that the change of director on the film was frustrating for him because the film was long in the making, and he had to try and learn different things like running and playing drums to fit into the character as per the demands of the changing script. Kangana Ranaut is currently campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections. She will be contesting in the Mandi constituency in Himachal Pradesh for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The actress who makes her political debut this election season has also been making controversial and viral remarks during her speeches. She recently claimed that she has received the same amount of love and respect as senior actor Amitabh Bachchan has in the film industry.  During a recent election rally, Kangana was seen making this statement comparing herself with Bachchan. In the videos from the rally, Ranaut can be heard saying, “Sara desh hairaan hai, ki wo Kangana, chahe Rajasthan chali jau, chahe mai West Bengal chali jau, chahe mai Delhi chali jau, chahe mai Manipur chali jau, aisa lagta hai ki mano itna pyaar aur itna sammaan… Mein daave se keh sakti hu ke Amitabh Bachchan ji ke baad aaj kisiko industry me milta hai to wo mujhe milta hai. (The whole country is surprised… whether I go to Rajasthan, or I go to West Bengal, or I go to Delhi, or I go to Manipur, it feels like there is so much love and respect. I can confidently say that after Amitabh Bachchan ji, if anyone gets such love and respect in the industry, I get it.)” Kangana Ranaut and Amitabh Bachchan have never shared screen space until today. The latter has praised Ranaut’s performance and sent her handwritten note of appreciation and bouquets for her performance in ‘Queen’ and ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’.  On the work front, Kangana will be seen in ‘Emergency.’ The film depicts the most controversial spectacle in the history of Indian Democracy, centered around one of the most sensational leaders of all time, the first woman Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. Kangana features in the titular role of the late politician in her first solo directorial film. The movie also stars Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles. Produced by Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films, the film’s music is orchestrated by Sanchit Balhara, with screenplay and dialogues by Ritesh Shah.
Bollywood actress Madhoo who played lead roles in Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil cinema in the 90s has revisited her statement about declining the role of Ajay Devgn’s mother, if offered. In a recent interview, she negated her previous statement and said that she would take it up as a challenge.  In an interview with Zoom, Madhoo clarified her earlier statement. “That statement was taken out of context. I said if, hypothetically… I am correcting myself now because I have evolved as an actor. I made the statement 2-3 years ago, in some other context. In the 2-3 years, I have realized I have played many different roles. I played an apsara [fairy] in Shakuntalam with Samantha [Ruth Prabhu]… So when I play, as an actor, actually I am enjoying the liberty and freedom of being an actor today. Back in the 90s, we were put in a box. We romanced, we sang, we danced. But now, with OTT, stories and content, I think that is kind of broken away. A lot of great opportunities are coming for every actor.” She further continued, “So, today I am thinking as an actor if I do get a role where they say you have to look older than Ajay, and play his mother’s role, I would take it as a challenge as an actor. If I get a role where I have to play any yesteryear lead actor’s mother’s role, I would look at it as a challenge and not as a sexist, controversy or that kind of a conversation. Let me see if I am convincing.” Madhoo made her Bollywood debut in the year 1991 opposite Ajay Devgn in the film ‘Phool Aur Kante’. She has been featured in films like ‘Roja’, ‘Diljale’, ‘Hum Hain Bemisaal’, ‘Elaan’ and more. In the late 90s, Madhoo disappeared from the big screens. She had said that it was a conscious decision as she was tired of playing romantic roles. “During the 90s, action films and heroes dominated the scene, and my roles mainly involved dancing, delivering a few romantic lines, and shedding tears with parents. While I enjoyed dancing, I realized that I was deeply unhappy with this shift from films like ‘Roja’. I recognised that my true passion lay in being an artist and doing meaningful work,” Madhoo said in an earlier interview. She will next be seen in the film ‘Kartam Bhugtam’, a thriller that also stars Shreyas Talpade and Vijay Raaz.

Reports of Ananya Panday and Aditya Roy Kapur having broken up after dating for two years is currently doing the rounds. According to reports, the couple parted ways in March and are currently focusing on moving ahead.  As reports of the breakup started doing the rounds, Ananya Panday gave a glimpse of how she is keeping herself busy. On Sunday night, Ananya shared a picture from her home where she is seen sharing her bed with her new pet dog, Riot. Sharing a picture of the little dog sleeping on her leg, Ananya wrote, “I mean how do you expect me to ever leave my house (crying face emoji)”. In another story on Instagram, Ananya shared a picture of her television set showing the points table of IPL 2024 with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on top of the table. Ananya has been a supporter of KKR which is co-owned by Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla. For years, Ananya has been seen cheering for the team along with her best friend Suhana Khan, daughter of SRK.  About Aditya and Ananya: Ananya and Aditya’s dating rumours began when the two made a joint appearance at Kriti Sanon’s Diwali party two years back. The news of them parting ways comes as a shocker. As per a report by ETimes, a source close to the couple said, “They broke up almost a month ago. They were going quite strong, and the break-up came as a shock to all of us. They are cordial with each other. Ananya is trying to move on, of course, there’s hurt. She is spending time with her new furry friend. Aditya is also trying to deal with the situation maturely.” During the episode of ‘Koffee With Karan season 7’, Ananya talked about finding Aditya attractive. When Karan Johar quizzed her about her alleged relationship with actor Ishaan Khatter and dating rumours with actor Kartik Aaryan, Ananya gave a cryptic answer and said she did not wish to dwell in the past. However, Ananya did reveal her newest crush when she said, “I find Aditya Roy Kapur hot.”  During her appearance on the show last season, when asked about her relationship with Aditya she simply said, “I am feeling Ananya Coy Kapur”.
It has been a while since Farhan Akhtar announced Don 3 with Ranveer Singh in the titular role. Don was made iconic by Amitabh Bachchan in the 1970s and then by Shah Rukh Khan in the 2000s. The latest update is that the action thriller will go on floors in February 2025. Insiders claim that this time around, most of the narrative is set in foreign shores. That’s why the filmmaker is currently in the UK to scout for locations. It is also being said that after finalising the locations, the team will head to Germany. Which is not too surprising as Farhan had kick-started Don 2: The King is Back (2011) with a schedule in Berlin. The upcoming film also stars Kiara Advani as the leading lady. Pre-production for Don 3 began earlier this year. The film’s production designer shared a dekko of a set design on social media, captioning it, “Aa raha hai woh. [He is coming] Don.” However, before Farhan goes behind the camera, he will shoot his next as an actor. Details of the project are being kept under wraps for now. All that is known at this point in time is that he begins shooting in July. On the other hand, Ranveer is said to shoot director Aditya Dhar’s yet-untitled action thriller later this year. Mutual admiration society mid-day recently reported about Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth shooting together for the latter’s next, Vettaiyan, in St Xavier’s College, Mumbai (Legends are the new cool kids on campus, May 3). Bachchan shared his joy of collaborating with his old friend, several years after Hum (1991). Alongside a picture of them together, he wrote, “I am honoured and privileged to be with the Thala, the great Rajini again. He hasn’t changed at all… the same, simple, humble, down-to-earth friend despite his stratospheric greatness!” Previously, when Big B was signed on for the film, Rajini had shared his excitement on social media, saying, “After 33 years, I am working again with my mentor, the phenomenon, Shri Amitabh Bachchan in Lyca’s upcoming production, Thalaivar 170, directed by TJ Gnanavel. My heart is thumping with joy!” Kya scene tha! Even though Dev Patel’s Monkey Man is yet to be cleared by Central Board of Film Certification for its India release, it has come to light that he edited Makarand Deshpande’s crucial scene from the final cut. Interestingly, the actor-filmmaker himself broke the news to Makarand before its US première, attributing it to ‘political reasons’. Sharing the details in an interaction online, Makarand recalled asking Dev, “Wasn’t that scene the philosophy of your film?” In response, he was told that the role still remained powerful. Reiterating that the scene would have made an impact, Makarand reportedly added, “It had that punch, an edited scene won’t matter to the audience, but it matters to the actor. In my understanding, it was the rooh [soul] of the film, it may not be for Dev. It is getting a lot of critical acclaim; it might [be] in the Oscar race later and is like their Satya.” ‘Join us and shine’ Amid reports that he is teaming up with Ranveer Singh, Prashanth Varma is inviting new artistes and technicians to join his cinematic universe. The Hanu-Man director has promised audiences a global experience with Jai Hanuman, the sequel to his January hit. Having struggled nearly a decade before getting the opportunity to direct his first film, Prashanth said, “I realised this is the best way to give back to the industry that made my dreams come true. Now that we have initiated this universe, I want to give an opportunity to new talents out there to join us and shine.” Water phobia no more Debattama Saha is excited about her new television show, Krishna Mohini, in which her character Krishna puts her sibling Mohan’s (Ketaki Kulkarni) happiness above everything else. Inspired by her fierce character, Debattama faced her fear of water head-on by plunging into a river for a pivotal sequence. “Krishna’s character has different layers, and one of them is her fierce attitude. When the scene demanded me to jump into a river, I was initially hesitant due to my water phobia,” the actor admitted. Since the role required her to battle her fears, Debattama took the leap with the help of the harness. She added, “The rush of adrenaline that followed was hard to put into words, and I felt an overwhelming sense of achievement. It felt fulfilling to have the director and my co-actors commend my courage. This experience taught me the power of confronting fears and gave me the satisfaction that comes with pushing past limits to create something meaningful on screen.” Bebo’s new role On the occasion of its 75th year of association with India, UNICEF announced Kareena Kapoor Khan as the new National Ambassador. She will support UNICEF India in furthering every child’s right to early childhood development, health, education and gender equality. Having been a celebrity advocate for the organisation for nearly a decade, she expressed pride in her work for children over the years. “I am inspired every day and I am looking forward to our continued partnership,” she said. Honoured to step into the new role, Bebo added, “I will strive to use my voice and influence for vulnerable children and their rights, especially around early childhood, education and gender equality.” Thrice as nice Mona Singh is currently juggling her three offerings, Ma Ka Sum, Pan Parda Zarda and Aryan Khan’s directorial debut, Stardom. She is not perturbed that the three projects are being shot in different cities—Mumbai, Goa and Delhi. Mona is ensuring that she gets into the skin of her characters and brings them to life on screen. A source says, “Mona understands the importance of grasping the intricacies of each script and her character. Hence, she makes sure to re-read the script thoroughly before reporting on that particular set.”
Having your life story unfold on screen can be among one’s happiest moments, but Srikanth Bolla found it equally difficult to part with his story. Reason? Bolla, who became a successful industrialist despite being visually challenged, believes one has to be mindful of how such a story is told. “It’s a story that must be told with caution. Limelight is tough. Also, once your biopic is on celluloid, it’s your responsibility to uphold the life you’ve reflected on screen,” says Bolla, who was the first international visually-impaired student in management science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and went on to set up Bollant Industries in 2012. Rajkummar Rao with Srikanth Bolla. Pic/Yogen Shah Reaching the zenith hasn’t been easy. His journey will be chronicled in Srikanth that sees Rajkummar Rao play the titular role. Bolla admits that initially, he was “not interested at all” in Tushar Hiranandani’s directorial venture. “I’m very shy as a person. I stay away from the media. But Tushar chased me down relentlessly. He got in touch with my business partner [Ravi Mantha] and convinced me that he wants to tell the story with love and optimism. I was clear it cannot have a sad spin. I wasn’t okay with a documentary treatment. Against all odds, a life can be lived well. I wanted the film to be happy and successful like my life. Everyone has some problem or the other, but it’s my response to the problems that [is shown in] the movie. People think this film is about the education system disadvantaging people.  That’s a part, but the larger story is more than that. It’s not an attack on anyone; it’s a celebration of life.” The May 10 release, also starring Jyotika and Alaya F, benefits from Rao’s presence. Bolla, who went to the set a few times during the shoot, says the actor has his heart. “Tushar told me he’d cast someone I resonate with. Raj is self-made. He is hard-working and has success that is well-earned. I heard from people that he has nailed my mannerisms perfectly; I think he has done a stunning piece of work. He had a set number of dates for the film, but the way he went above and beyond was moving.”
